Miller Park Zoo, Savings and Zoo Park Description for 2024

Miller Park Zoo is part of the Parks and Recreation Department of Bloomington and was actually started back in the early 1900s when a circus lion ended up on a farm. However, ground was not broken for the zoo until 1913 and it officially opened its doors in 1914. The first expansion of the zoo started in 1960 which was the construction of the Woodland Wing. At this time it kept two sea lions, however, in 1970s it became the Tropical Rainforest exhibition. The zoo now has many different classes and camps for anyone to enjoy as well as school programs and group events. They also have a way to adopt the animals and even a junior zookeeper program for junior high and high school children to learn about how the zoo works as well as to learn about the animals at the zoo.
