Phillips Park Zoo, Savings and Zoo Description for 2025

Philips Park Zoo first opened its doors in 1915 and is open all year with no admission charge. It used to hold exotic animals but once Brookfield Zoo opened up in 1934, it then changed to only housing animals native to Illinois. When it did house exotic animals, by 1920, it held 5 black bears, 10 monkeys, 6 elk, 3 buffalo, 2 foxes, 1 wolf, 1 deer, and hundreds of different types of birds. It now has a kids zone which includes scavenger hunts and other activities for children to learn about the wildlife. This zoo also has a calendar of events, a live Eagle cam, and even different resources for parents and teachers.
