Blank Park Zoo, Savings and Zoo Park Description for 2024


Blank Park Zoo officially started out as the Des Moines Children Zoo in 1966. However, because zoo officials failed to make the needed improvements, it was on the verge of closing until a group of business leaders created a foundation to form the Blank Park Zoo I 1981 and they officially reopened the zoo in 1986 naming it the Blank Park Zoo. One year later, the zoo was accredited by the Association of Zoos and Aquariums and is actually the only zoo in the state to be accredited. The zoo sets on 25 acres of land and features big cats, primates, panda's, marine animals, bats, and much more. This zoo holds events all year round as well as allows visitors to rent facilities for special events of their own.
