Wright Park Zoo, Savings and Zoo Park Description for 2024


The Wright Park Zoo has about 126 animals from about 30 or more different species. This zoo’s history can be dated all the way to 1926 when the zoo in the park brought in two African Lions to go along with the two North American Black Bears as well as the raccoons the zoo already had on display. The animals on display come from almost every continent in the world and it brings in 60,000 visits each year.

This zoo is one of the smallest zoos in Kansas. However, the Friends of the Zoo are currently working toward making it bigger and better. In 2010, the zoo became accredited by the ZAA or otherwise known as the Zoological Association of America.

Friends of the Zoo Membership

The Friends of the Zoo (FOTZ), and the City of Dodge City work together to make improvements to the zoo. Over the last few years projects have included renovating landscaping at the zoo, providing new exhibits for wolves and emu’s, and expanding pens for several existing exhibits including Elvira, our Bengal tiger.
