The Maryland Zoo houses over 2,000 animals and is accredited by the Association of Zoos and Aquariums. Although the zoo had financial problems in 2004 and had to close a few exhibits, they bounced back a few years later and were named America’s Best Zoo in 2008. This zoo has many conservation programs including the Mountain Gorilla Veterinarian Program and Project Golden Frog. This zoo also holds many public and private events. The private events include rental of the zoo for birthday parties and weddings.
