The Hemker Park and Zoo was founded in 1977 but expanded it in 1985 when they acquired more animals to add to their collection. The zoo officially opened to the public in 1994. There are many animals visitors can see here including mammals, reptiles, amphibians, birds, and more. This zoo also holds special events such as close encounters, parties and celebrations, and more as well as provides different educational resources including field trips and the mobile petting zoo. The zoo also provides visitors with the opportunity to experience life as a zookeeper.
